Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment which focuses on structural and mechanical problems of the body. The osteopath assesses the biomechanics of your body looking for the root cause of the problem.

Osteopathic treatment uses soft tissue massage, mobilisation of joints and manipulation to stimulate the body’s own healing response. These techniques help alleviate pain, restore motion and influence the body’s structure to perform more efficiently.

Osteopathic treatment is recognised as a form of manual medicine that compliments orthodox medicine.  Osteopathic medicine includes the use of modern technological imaging to diagnose disease and evaluate injury with manual and medical methods of treatment applied.  All of the Forge Clinics Osteopaths are registered with the General Osteopathic Council.

Osteopaths are recognised for successful treatment of back pain. Osteopathic treatment is not limited to the back.  Osteopaths identify areas of tension throughout the body around the spine and other joints, as well as certain muscles.  The treatments are just as effective in all parts of the body, from ankle pain to knees, hips, elbows, wrists and neck.

The Osteopath will design a programme of treatment suited to your needs.  This will include several treatments to stabilise and improve the injury and may include;

• Ultrasound imaging to show the structure and movement of the problem area, as well as damage and swelling to soft tissues
• Massage therapy to help relieve or prevent the effects of increased tension and postural stresses
• Rehabilitation to use balanced movement, flexibility and strengthening exercises to aid recovery and prevent injury recurrence
