Cranial Osteopathy in Richmond, London

Cranial osteopathy is a gentle manipulative form of osteopathic treatment that uses light pressure to encourage the release of stresses and tensions throughout the body.

Cranial osteopaths are trained to feel the rhythmical shape change that occurs in all body tissues. This is called an involuntary motion. The skull is made up of 26 bones that are joined in such a way that during the rhythmical cycle of involuntary motion the skull actually changes shape. Physical training, illness and stress can block or disrupt this movement, preventing an optimum state of health.

Cranial Osteopathy for Babies and Children

The birthing process is traumatic for mother and baby. The baby's head has the remarkable ability to absorb these stresses in delivery but this can lead to the baby’s head being altered from its natural shape.  The baby’s head will recover its shape over time, cranial osteopathy can help to speed up this process and ensure that no area remains in tension Cranial osteopathy addresses the stresses around the newborn babies head and allows the unmolding process to complete (to permit the baby’s head to take on its natural shape).

Stresses within the baby’s head can result in; crying, irritability, feeding difficulties, sickness, colic, wind and sleep disturbances.
