RICHMOND ACUPUNCTURE

OUR RICHMOND ACUPUNCTURE CLINIC

Acupuncture is a form of ancient Chinese medicine, involving inserting very fine needles into specific areas of the body with the aim of improving health. The stimulation of these trigger points is thought to release oxytocin. Acupuncturists believe that a life-force known as Qi flows through our bodies and when this is blocked, illness occurs.

The British Acupuncture Council’s latest research has shown that acupuncture can help with a variety of conditions from the short term relief of chronic low back pain to short term headache relief. Many people turn to acupuncture when they are feeling out of balance and often have regular treatment as they find it helps them feel revitalised and relaxed.

We offer both Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and Five Element Acupuncture. Each session specifically caters to the individual and our acupuncturists offer an integrative approach that treats the body, mind and spirit of each patient.

ABOUT YOUR ACUPUNCTURE APPOINTMENT

Each initial appointment is 90 minutes, which includes a full consultation about general health and medical history followed by treatment. Follow-up sessions are 45 minutes.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Medical research has shown that the insertion of needles at particular ‘trigger points’ stimulates sensory nerves to release substances, such as endorphins, that can reduce symptoms.

The traditional Chinese theory suggests that an energy known as Qi flows through the body along channels called meridians and if the flow is blocked it can cause ill health. Acupuncture aims to restore the flow of Qi and trigger the body’s natural healing response.

Evidence-based clinical research shows that acupuncture can help with a variety of common health problems. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends acupuncture as a treatment option for chronic tension-type headaches and migraines.

There is also evidence showing that acupuncture can help with short-term relief of chronic neck and low back pain. New recent research has also shown it can be effective at relieving nausea.

Many people have acupuncture at The Forge Clinic in Richmond to relieve specific pains or health conditions like insomnia or bowel issues. Some choose acupuncture when they feel their body is out of balance, and others have regular treatments because it makes them feel revitalised, more positive and relaxed.

TESTIMONIALS

I saw Sandra for an acupuncture labour preparation session (at 39 weeks). This was my first experience with acupuncture, and she was brilliant at explaining the treatment and making sure that I was fully comfortable with her approach. The clinic is lovely, and Sandra made sure that I was comfortable and at ease as she did the treatment. She also took her time to explain some helpful acupressure points that I could practice at home. However, those ended up not being necessary as my labour kicked in shortly after the session and I gave birth to our daughter later that day! The birth was an amazing experience, and I am convinced that Sandra’s treatment was a big contributing factor. Many thanks to her and the team at the clinic for their warmth, professionalism and skill!

I have experienced great relief from digestive issues and other stress related symptoms after a session with Maureen. She is an expert and very thorough a great acupuncturist who I highly recommend, whatever your health concern, stress, low energy, anxiety, fertility or weight loss.

Sandra O’Hagan was a fantastic support to me. I highly recommend her fertility acupuncture. I was 41 when I began seeing her. Her warm, compassionate and highly informative approach made each session relaxing and gave me renewed hope. I am now nearly 6 months pregnant and look forward to continuing my journey with her birth preparation sessions. I could not recommend anyone more highly.

Victoria

After only two sessions with Maureen and I feel great. I initially booked an appointment with Maureen to deal with several “women’s problems” and quickly learnt that she treats the body as a whole. She takes a full medical history before treating the body and I can honestly say I have never enjoyed a session with someone as much as I have with Maureen. For any needle phobic you need not to worry, it is painless and actually enjoyable. After the first session I had my best night’s sleep for years. I always struggle to get to sleep and now as soon as my head hits the pillow, I sleep for an uninterrupted 8 hours. I cannot recommend Maureen highly enough. A session with her leaves me energised, balanced and well.
