GAIT ANALYSIS & ORTHOTICS
Your gait is how you move from one place to another, either by walking or running. We can use gait analysis to identify movement or posture-related problems that can cause or have caused injuries.
David Silver and Alan Burke use high speed filming to show you a slow motion film of your gait while walking and/or running. This video is then analysed through video analysis software that assesses gait pattern and helps us to diagnose bio-mechanical problems. You may then be prescribed orthotics.
Orthotics can help with:
- Running issues
- Back pain
- Leg and knee pain
During your initial consultation, your practitioner will work out what may be causing your pain. If they suspect it is due to your gait, they will recommend gait analysis. If you have any questions about why they think you need this, please contact us. At The Forge Clinic, we aim to help you and are always happy to talk you through a treatment plan and answer any questions that you may have.
A treadmill is used to conduct the gait analysis, but if your practitioner thinks it will cause you pain or agitate an existing condition, they will not recommend it. We use a treadmill so that you are in one place and our practitioner can easily judge your gait. You may be asked to run for a short time, but if you experience any discomfort whatsoever, let the practitioner know and they will stop the test.
Please bring your trainers and comfortable clothing which will allow you to move on the treadmill. Please be aware that our practitioner will be looking particularly at your feet and lower leg so we would suggest bottoms that you can easily roll up.
After your gait analysis, you may be prescribed semi-bespoke orthotics. This is an insole which is tailored specifically to your needs, designed to sit inside your shoe and correct your gait.
If your orthotics have worn out over time or you have another concern about them, please do not hesitate to contact us. Let us know what the problem is, send us all the details you have about your current orthotics and we can have a new pair ordered for you and will contact you when they are ready to picked up. Please be aware that there will be a charge for replacement orthotics.
