Massage therapy is one of the oldest forms of treatment in the world. It has been used by many cultures for hundreds of years and is now considered to be an effective form of alternative medicine. When massage therapy is performed by a trained professional, the health benefits can be phenomenal; it may relieve stress, pain and speed up the rehabilitation process after a sports injury or operation.
Our massage therapists use three techniques during massage therapy:
• Effleurage consists of a variety of stroking methods which can be done with varied pressure. This technique is usually performed with the fingers or the hands.
• Petrissage consists of kneading deeper tissues with the aim of inducing relaxation, stretching muscle fibres and mobilising fluids.
• Friction is an even deeper technique and is used for separating muscles fibres and breaking down lesions. Frictions can also be used to break down recent scar tissue.
The treatment that our massage therapists provide will depend on your condition. Each therapy session is unique to the individual. Your problems will be discussed before the massage therapy begins. Therapy sessions can consist of one, two or all of the above.
